I've had several interactions with people who are gregarious and get along with others well, and I recognize they're lovely people, but it's not the vibe for me. This scenario, to me, screams, "A too-full-of-himself social butterfly became part of my friendgroup and I tolerate him to be with my friends." /shrug Just my take. I very much vibe with this woman. (I've had people feel entitled to my attention and try to compliment me when they haven't taken the time to learn about my interests, who think they can make me more outwardly enthusiastic. I respond similarly to them where I don't put any energy into it because I find that any kind of reaction just perpetuates the idea that there's a way to get my interest and interaction. We're not interested. We're not reciprocating. Stop wasting your time and do *us* the favor of leaving us alone.) Speaking only for myself and only because I resonate with her a lot, what would be an appropriate thing to do would be giving physical space in the friendgroup and being more quiet and attentive, not just to the person of interest but to everyone. Observe how the person you're interested in is interacting with their friends and see what kinds of interactions they appreciate. Pay attention to what they enthuse about or bring up as subjects of conversation. Are they introspective? Do they point out details in their environment that they find interesting? Do they like listening to stories? Do they like talking about game mechanics or crunchy stuff like math? In the example, he's asking her to tell him instead of just paying attention and learning about her on his own. By asking her to tell him the answer, he's saying he isn't willing to put in the prerequisite amount of work to get his foot in the door with her, even as a friend. Again, speaking for myself, I reciprocate the efforts others make toward me. If he's gonna be only himself and not think to adjust his behavior when I show clear signs of disliking his behavior, then I'm going to be far less inclined to adjust my behavior to suit his likes. It's about equity. (This ended up being a lot longer than I intended. >.<)

As someone who is autistic, I would be a little surprised if someone asked me, because normally when I tell people I am they are surprised. However the way this guys asks and uses it in a derogatory manner is incredibly offensive. Autism is not something to be shamed, it is just the way that my brain works. I think that the guy in these texts is incredibly narcissistic, socially unaware, never been rejected before, thinks that if he keep harassing women that they will relent and let him fuck them. She clearly doesn’t like him and is talking about having babies with her even though he is absolutely just wants to hit it and quit it. Guy is crazy, my mom has dealt with some grown men like this, if it gets bad enough I think she should go to the police.

i’ve seen some other autistic people say this but i agree as an autistic person that asking about diagnosis is context dependent. if someone is genuinely curious/trying to understand me then that’s totally fine, no offense taken. if someone is asking because they’re equating autistic with being weird or asking in a way that seems like it’s meant to be hurtful then it’s not cool. either way i would calmly explain to them that i am autistic and there’s nothing wrong with that. also he follows it up with “im not saying you’re not pretty” which upholds the stereotype that autistic people can’t be attractive. women especially will frequently be told “you’re too pretty to be autistic” which is so dumb because autism has nothing to do with physical appearance or beauty (through a conventional lens)

For the first one, say it to the kids. They need to learn and clearly the parents are shitty and not teaching them appropriate social cues. Just say it nicely to them. Edit: it's not even remotely a community event

Of course it would not offend me if someone outright asked me if i am autistic. I prefer that people be straightforward with what they say. i find it frustrating when people don't say what they mean, or use confusing social cues i can't pick up on.

The guy is definitely in the wrong, but i would probably ask the same question about if she is autistic. Based on the behavior and texts seen, i might recommend they get tested. Especially since it is much harder to diagnose autism in females.

I think "what's your deal???" (in a non-aggressive way) is a pretty good way to ask about someone's possibly-autistic quirkiness without being overly intrusive or offensive. The guy who won a free vacation strikes me as someone who likes the idea of having a wife, but doesn't like the idea of having a step daughter and the fact that spending time with her kid is probably really important for his wife. Which is a problem, when he knowingly married a woman who has a child from a previous relationship. Personally, I believe that if you get involved with someone who is a parent, and you decide to go to the point of comitting to marriage, you have also comitted to treating the child like family to the point that that kid wants, because you have been inserted into their life and are now part of it, whether they want that or not. So to win that trip and then to plan it without the kid, expecting his wife to just leave her either with the dad, if the dad is even in the picture, or with her grandmother, is a dick move.

Henlo, diagnosed and open autistic here. It depends on how and why they ask if I'm autistic. If it's a simple observation then yes that's fine, as long as they don't treat me any differently afterwards (like babying me) but if it's like an insult, they think it's a bad, terrible thing, or almost like exploitative, if that makes sense (if it's like, oh my gosh, are you autistic?! That's so cool! Can we study together?/wanna be in my Tiktok?/let's be friend's!, y'know that kind of thing) I actually once had a tutor of mine go "I hope you don't find this offensive, but I think you might be on the spectrum." And I was like YES, VALIDATION!
